What if you need special help at the test centre?

When you’ve found the PTE exam dates in India that suit you best, you also need to consider if you need any special accommodations to help you take the test in that environment.

Pearson is committed to making its tests accessible to all so can make ‘reasonable adjustments’. This can include providing a separate testing room or extra time to take the test or a reader or recorder.

It’s advisable to get in touch with Pearson before booking, to check what accommodations they can make for your needs. With plenty of PTE exam dates 2022 to choose from, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Taking the PTE test at home

If none of these test centres are close to your home, there is a way to take the test without worrying too much about the PTE exam dates.

The PTE Academic Online means you can take the exact same test as anyone else, but in your own home or somewhere else that’s quiet and private.

It’s important to note though that this is only for academic courses and NOT accepted for visa applications.

To take the PTE Academic Online test you need:

  • A reliable computer with a webcam
  • A wired headset
  • A good enough internet connection
  • To download and run the OnVUEsoftware - you should perform a system check via the PTE Academic Online webpage before booking the test.

How much does a PTE test cost?

Of course, a major factor in deciding whether or not to go ahead with the test in the first place is how affordable it is.
The PTE exam fees in India are INR 14,700 whether you take the test in-person or online at home.

There’s slightly different PTE exam fee information for the specific tests required for gaining a UK visa.

The standard PTE Academic UKVI Secure English Language Test (SELT) test is INR 14,700, but the PTE Home A1 (for work and family visas), A2 (an extension to the A1 visa) and B1 (for permanent settlement in the UK) tests are all INR 12,400.

There are currently no discounts offered for the PTE exam fees 2022.

How can you pay your PTE exam fees?

The PTE exam fee can be paid with Mastercard, Visa, JCB or American Express credit cards as well as Mastercard and Visa debit cards.

You can also receive vouchers to pay for the PTE tests but it’s worth remembering that these are non-refundable.

What if you need to cancel or reschedule the PTE exam?

With so many PTE exam dates available, what happens if the one you’ve booked suddenly becomes inconvenient or just impossible to attend?

There are ways to cancel or reschedule but how much money you get back all depends on how close to the original date you make the request.

If you cancel at least 14 days before the original test date, you can claim a full refund. That drops down to 50% of the PTE exam fee if it’s no closer than 7 days.

Unfortunately, if you cancel with less than a week to go, you’ll lose all of your money.

The situation is the same for rescheduling the test.

If you reschedule between one and two weeks of the test date, you’ll need to pay 50% of the fees. Rescheduling with less than one week means you’ll need to pay the full amount again.

Because of these restrictions, it’s advisable to be sure that you can attend before booking your test otherwise you will run the risk of spending much more money than you should need on the PTE exam fee.

What to do if your scores aren’t good enough?

After you get your results, if you’re not happy with them you can request to have them revalued - this only applies to the speaking and writing sections - for INR 7,900.

You can of course retake the test if your scores aren’t what you were hoping for, but you’ll have to pay all over again each time.

So if you do need a retake you should pay close attention to the Skills Profile that comes with your score report and explains your performance across eight key language skill categories.

This can help you and your tutor to work out what went wrong and focus on the areas that you need to improve before your next test. Not doing this means risking wasting a lot of money to keep on taking the test.
