BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy

This course aims to produce competent speech and language therapists who are able to practise safely and effectively. You will gain knowledge and understanding of communication problems and related concerns. You will appreciate how a communication problem can impact on a person's life and their family. You will learn how to assess such problems and how to work with the person to improve or maintain their communication skills.The course will develop your professional and personal skills of reflecting honestly and constructively on how you have managed people with communication problems while on placement. You will be supported to develop skills of team working, clinical reflection and presentation skills during the in-house modules as well as when out on placement. You will develop your research skils in order to ensure that your management of people with a communication problem is current and based on good evidence.You will experience a fully co-ordinated three year course where all aspects of theory and practical experience are carefully planned together. Your assessments will develop your ability to integrate theory with practice as a speech and language therapist. This will happen in well supported logical steps across the three years.The University regularly refreshes courses to make sure they are as up-to-date as possible. This process is 'academic revalidation'. This course will be refreshed during the 2017/18 academic year, with changes put in place for students entering in Sept 2018.
