Course overview

This course explores methods for studying religion as well as engaging you in the study of religions/spiritualities as they are lived in diverse contexts and by communities across the globe. You can explore religious philosophies, the relationship between religion and culture, and the interface between religion, history, ethics, politics and spirituality.

Teaching methods

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, individual tutorials, study visits, group work and one-to-one tutorials. There will also be opportunities for field trips in the UK and/or abroad. Our building houses a computer room, kitchen, student social and study space, and three purpose-built modern lecture rooms.

Assessment

Assessment is mainly by coursework, such as essays, portfolios, presentations, text reviews, field reports, and seminars. Some modules may have a short exam.

Job prospects

This course develops skills in empathy, cultural sensitivity, and religious literacy valued by employers. Students go on to work in a number of professions, including teaching, banking and financial business, marketing and advertising, publishing, civil service, health and social care, counselling, and customer service.
