PGCert Early Years with Early Years Teacher Status

University of Gloucestershire

Designed for professionals working in an early years setting, this course enables you to become a specialist in early childhood development, while gaining Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) and a recognised qualification in early years. With endorsement from the Government, this course recognises practitioners who have the skills needed to lead high-quality early years practice.

The course takes a strong practical focus and is designed to be studied alongside working in an early years setting. You’ll explore concepts of leadership and management, including managing and measuring the impact of change. Contemporary and controversial issues will also be examined, to strengthen your ability to engage critically with information sources.

Study style

You’ll learn through placements, lectures, workshops and reflective study, and you’ll be assessed through coursework. You’ll gain experience of varied placements and a range of age groups – providing you with different routes into becoming a teacher.

On the full-time version of the course you’ll study one day a week, while working in an early years setting - enabling you to continue with your current employment while you study. If you don’t currently have a role in an early years setting, we’ll support you to find suitable employment.

Possible careers

Graduates from this course can go on to work in:

  • teaching within early years settings, free schools, academies and independent schools
  • education roles in local authority
  • lecturing roles in further education.
