The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is a renowned coastal university. It was founded in 1947 to support local residents with higher education opportunities. In 1969, the establishment joined the University of North Carolina System. Today, around 15,000 students attend the university and it is ranked among the top 100 public national universities by U.S. News & World Report in 2023.

Students can choose from a variety of different housing options at UNCW. The university also has specific halls of residence for first-year students, sophomores and upperclassmen. Currently, undergraduate first-years can select a housing option from 11 different halls. These vary from shared rooms and facilities to private rooms and en-suite housing.
