BA (Hons) Media, Communication and Social Media
The programme uses critical academic perspectives to study media and communication processes with a particular focus on social media. You learn to use these concepts to develop practical solutions for work-relevant projects. The first academic year is foundational and introduces the academic study of media, developing core skills and understanding in the use of media across a variety of contexts. There is a particular focus upon the impact of digital technologies as new and old media converge. In the second academic year, you take two core modules alongside other media and communication students, and also take specialist modules which explore the theory and practice of social media. You are given the opportunity to apply these approaches whilst working with organisations and enterprises in the local community, and are able to tailor your learning by choosing from a range of optional modules. The Work Placement module gives you the chance to think carefully about your graduate exit strategy and what you need to do to achieve the career you want. In the final academic year, you take a specialist module in social media and branding, and undertake an Extended Independent Study which allows you to study a particular aspect of social media which interests you.
