Colorado State University was founded in 1870 as the Colorado Agricultural College before becoming the State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. 1957 the Colorado General Assembly approved the change to its current name and it became a university. Today it has around 35,000 students a year including 2,500 international students from 110 countries around the world.

It has ranked just outside the top 400 universities globally in the QS World University Rankings and into the top 400 in the Times Higher Education rankings. Within the USA it has been ranked in the top 250 by Forbes and just outside the top 150 by US News & World Report. Washington Monthly rated it the top university in Colorado and 91st in the country.
