The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is a renowned coastal university. It was founded in 1947 to support local residents with higher education opportunities. The University of North Carolina Wilmington campus has seen a $450 million investment in recent years. As a result, a state of the art University Film Center recently opened to provide a 4,000-square-foot soundstage and 80-seat movie theatre.In addition, the campus has the Center for Marine Science and MARBIONC. This area provides specialist equipment for Marine Biology and coastal studies courses.
