Overview

Cape Breton University is a public university in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It dates back to the creation of St. Francis Xavier University Sydney Campus in 1951 as a satellite of St Francis Xavier University. In 1974 it merged with the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology to become the College of Cape Breton before becoming a full university in 1982.

It has ranked 19th in the MacLean's undergraduate university rankings and 46th in its reputation rankings. It also ranked 6th in the student satisfaction survey. It has just over 5,500 students including, 3,500 from more than 55 countries around the world. This makes it one of the most diverse and multicultural universities in Canada.

Tuition fees for international students in Canada generally are lower than other countries like the USA, UK and New Zealand. Cape Breton in particular has some of the lowest fees in Canada, making it an affordable place to study with a low cost of living as well.

Cape Breton University has been ranked at #1 for student satisfaction in Canada as well as for its Entire Education Experience accordion to an NSAA survey. It also came first for Teaching Instruction and for class sizes.
