BA (Hons) Education Studies

This course provides an opportunity to engage in current debates on education by focusing on the contemporary approaches, skills and methods used in teaching, learning and educational wellbeing, and looking at how childhood is shaped by culture and society.Our students explore how people develop through education and, by taking part in placement and volunteering opportunities, gain a broad range of skills that are transferable to careers in socially orientated professions.Recent graduates have gone on to work in teaching, education practice, early years childcare, youth work and educational publishing or choose to progress to postgraduate level courses, such as our Education Practice MA.You’ll cover topics including perspectives on education, thinking and learning in higher education, historical and contemporary issues, teaching diversity, how people learn, and special educational needs.You’ll also have the opportunity to choose from elective modules in years two and three that include global comparative education, technological transformations in learning, education and equality, and education and the arts.Key Features• Choose to study Education Studies as a single honours programme, or in combination with French, Mandarin, Spanish or Psychology.• Centred around the five key pillars; sociology, philosophy, psychology, history and economics students will develop their understanding of the wider context of; and the reasoning behind current educational decisions and explore what it means to be a child in the UK in the 21st century.• Gain international experience related to your studies through our DMU Global programme*.
