Science Education
The DCU BSc in Science Education provides students with a Teaching Council accredited concurrent degree qualification in post-primary initial teacher education which combines the study of three curricular subjects with teacher education studies. On successful completion of the programme, graduates can directly register with the Teaching Council as qualified to teach two subjects from Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, to Leaving Certificate Level.
Mathematics and science play essential roles in our everyday lives, and as a second-level teacher, you’ll be securing Ireland’s future by developing citizens that are informed decision-makers and scientists that are innovative and creative. The programme is delivered by an interdisciplinary team of discipline experts from across the DCU Institute of Education and Faculty of Science and Health, thus acquiring scientific and mathematical knowledge along with educational expertise. Students registered on the programme also benefit from the unique opportunity to participate in the STEM Teacher Internship Programme - an initiative developed by DCU, Accenture and 30% Club that facilitates DCU STEM teachers completing a 12 week paid internship in industry during summer of third year.
