Our MSc Information Systems and Digital Innovation has been designed with industry partners to produce graduates who understand the professional, managerial, and technical dimensions of information systems and digital innovation. It is ideal for graduates who would like a career in digital technologies, information systems management, business and digital media analytics, big data, and competitive intelligence.

In today's digital age, the speedy and accurate sharing of the right information to the right people is essential for success in any organisation. It is an aspect of business management that cuts across business functions and has multiple implications for the challenges facing organisations today, including:

  • The ethical and legislative issues of using digital technologies
  • How digital technologies impact on organisational structure, employee expectations and business operations
  • Unlocking insights from big data to drive social and organisational improvement.

Developing the ‘Hybrid Managers’ of the future

This programme is designed to develop you into a hybrid manager who is able to bridge the gap between technical and managerial perspectives and is equipped with the technical, professional and management knowledge and skills needed by employers. You will explore the principles and practice of information systems and digital innovation, along with the relationship between traditionally technology independent areas of an organisation and relevant non-technical business areas.

We enable you to develop the key soft skills that employers value, including creative problem solving, critical thinking, team working, communication, personal resilience and dealing with organisational volatility. The taught functional 'hard' skills include:

  • managing information systems
  • new technologies including SAP S/4 HANA, Web3.0
  • cloud computing
  • ethical AI
  • technology driven business models
  • information architectures
  • basic coding and analytical tools to provide analytics and insight from data and information.

UK-leading research input

You will be taught by experts from the UK’s leading Centre for Information Management (CIM) research centre who ensure that all teaching is informed by the latest commercial best practice and academic research. We take pride in teaching you how relevant and inspiring research can be used in practice to solve real world problems.

The use of guest lecturers from industry and not-for-profit organisations helps to embed this real-world perspective. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on lots of interactive group challenges involving global organisational problems.

Part-time study options for working professionals

The programme is suitable for those who are new to the subject, as well as those who have already gained a grounding in the basics of IT or management subjects.

Working professionals wishing to study the programme part-time or to take individual modules for continuing professional development (CPD) are invited to discuss their requirements with the Programme Director.
