Classical Languages

Step back into a world of great heroes and historians, of philosophers and mathematicians, of exploration and discovery. Watch as Achilles lands on the plains below Troy and lays his eyes on the fortified city above. Delve into Sappho's lyric poetry and truly experience the genius that came to be known as the Tenth Muse. Study history under Tacitus and follow Aeneas out of the ruined Troy as Virgil records the epic journey.

The classics program at Marquette leads students through a rigorous curriculum that engages with the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome through the study of their languages, art, literature, philosophy, politics and history.

The classics program offers a major with three concentrations:

  • Classical Languages (Latin and Greek)
  • Classical Languages for Education Majors
