Our built-for-results program combines theoretical lectures with hands-on lab work, leading to exciting opportunities in the dynamic field of chemistry.

Sacred Heart’s state-of-the-art facilities offer some of the most advanced instrumentation in the region, and our ideal location means we’re near the country’s top pharmaceutical and industrial companies, including Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and General Electric. Here, you’ll gain knowledge, tools, and skills that translate to real-world results, so you graduate equipped to contribute to the field on a local, national, and international level.

The graduate program in chemistry provides a variety of options designed to meet students’ academic, professional, and personal interests.

Complete your Master of Science in Chemistry degree in as little as two years as a full time student, or study at your own pace with our part time option. Courses are offered primarily on weekday evenings so students can continue to work while advancing their knowledge in the field.

Gain experience in modern experimental techniques and deepen your understanding of laboratory operations and computational computer modeling. Under the supervision of a faculty member, you will craft a proposal for your thesis project, which typically includes approximately six months of research that culminates in a written thesis.

This track is ideal for students with relevant industry experience and whose employment or other circumstances preclude them from doing a master’s thesis. Students will strengthen their knowledge in the basic areas of chemistry - inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry. You will learn to effectively communicate scientific information, both written and orally, and you will improve your ability to understand and apply scientific literature in scientific settings.

In the Chem-Bioinformatics program, you’ll become part of a research community that has wide-reaching implications for important fields including medicine, drug discovery, genomics, evolutionary biology, and more. Students will learn how to create databases, algorithms and other computational and statistical techniques to solve formal and practical problems and analyze relationships arising from massive chemical and biological data sets.

Students will learn the chemistry of biomolecules and explore state-of-the-art bioanalytical methods.
