In times of rapid change, professional, workplace, and community-based learning is the key to successful adaptation, growth, and resilience. Designed for busy professionals who need to think critically, we are Canada's oldest distance and part-time Master of Adult Education program.
Our History
The Department of Adult Education was established in 1970. Historically, the Department emerged out of a long standing focus on adult education and community development at StFX. The Antigonish Movement, a program of community self-reliance, began on the StFX university campus. Today the StFX Extension Department carries out this work within Nova Scotia, while the Coady International Institute extends the principles of adult education to community development leaders from countries all over the globe. The department has a formalized working relationship with the Coady Institute, and one of our faculty members is cross appointed with the Institute. MAdEd participants are introduced to Coady approaches and resources that they can draw from in order to create community programs that are more engaging and effective.
