Doctor of Education
The Doctor of Education (Ed.D) is an advanced, research-based course of study at the Doctoral level. The EdD is focused on questioning, analysing, and critiquing professional practice.
You will engage with research connected to your current or projected career interests, and develop substantial content knowledge as well as knowledge and skills in relation to research principles and methods. Research projects conducted for the Doctor of Education can contribute to policy, leadership/management and professional practice in education.
Participants will demonstrate intellectual capacity to think critically, evaluate existing knowledge and ideas, undertake systematic investigation, and reflect on theory and practice.
The course consists of four units and has two components: coursework and thesis.
The coursework component is run as a series of weekend seminars with assessment tasks for each unit of study. These units lead to the preparation of a draft research proposal for the thesis.
On successful completion of these units you will progress to the thesis component of your degree. Students receive extensive and thorough supervision throughout the thesis stage of the program.
The Doctor of Education degree is recognised internationally and is designed to accommodate the needs of educators who wish to undertake Doctoral level study with a view to improving practice in the profession.
Many Ed.D graduates from the Graduate School of Education occupy leading positions as principals in schools, education administrators, and as prominent researchers and academics in universities all over the world.
Applicants for the Doctor of Education may be eligible for an exemption of fees under the Research Training Program.
The Doctor of Education (Ed.D) is offered offshore in Singapore through our partnership with the Hwa Chong Institution.
