Trent University is a public liberal arts university in Peterborough, Ontario, which was founded in 1963 and welcomed its first students a year later. It has been set up as a collegiate university system with its colleges - Champlain, Lady Eaton, Catharine Parr Traill, Otonabee, and Peter Gzowski - each having their own residence halls and student governments.
It has around 17,000 students across its campuses and colleges. Trent University has been ranked as Ontario's number 1 undergraduate university for 12 years in a row in Maclean's University Rankings. It has also been ranked as number 1 in Ontario and number 2 in the whole of Canada for overall reputation and second in the country for most innovative university.
Trent University has been working hard to upgrade and improve its facilities in recent years. This has included the transformation of the Bata Library to add an entrepreneurship and social innovation centre and educational design research studio.
Trent University has ranked as the second best university in Canada for student services in Maclean's University Rankings.
As well as placing in the top 6.6% of universities in the world, Trent University also enjoys high levels of student satisfaction. 95% of students said they were happy to have chosen the university while 94% were satisfied with the overall quality of their education received here.
Campuses
The Durham campus is located in Oshawa, Ontario. It is just 40 minutes from downtown Toronto. The Thornton Northbound at Monaghan bus stop is just a minute’s walk from the campus.
Oshawa is located on the shores of Lake Ontario and is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Oshawa is close to Toronto, Port Perry, and Cobourg. The city’s downtown area is filled with restaurants and cultural venues.
The city is known for its extensive parks and green spaces. Lakeview Park is one of the most popular parks. Other popular places include Parkwood Estate, Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens, Darlington Provincial Park, and many more.
