Trent University is a public liberal arts university in Peterborough, Ontario, which was founded in 1963 and welcomed its first students a year later. It has been set up as a collegiate university system with its colleges - Champlain, Lady Eaton, Catharine Parr Traill, Otonabee, and Peter Gzowski - each having their own residence halls and student governments.

It has around 17,000 students across its campuses and colleges. Trent University has been ranked as Ontario's number 1 undergraduate university for 12 years in a row in Maclean's University Rankings. It has also been ranked as number 1 in Ontario and number 2 in the whole of Canada for overall reputation and second in the country for most innovative university.
