UMass Boston (The University of Massachusetts Boston) dates back to 1863 when the Massachusetts Agricultural College was founded. Just over 100 years later the University of Masschusetts Boston was established and classes started in September 1965. Today it hosts over 15,000 students a year including more than 2,000 international students from 150 countries around the world.
It has been ranked the 3rd best public university in Massachusetts and in the top 250 universities in the USA by US News & World Report. It has also been ranked as one of the 300 Best Value Colleges by Forbes while the Princeton Review included it in its Best in the Northeast Colleges list.
UMass Boston has been ranked in the top 20 for ethnic diversity amongst national universities by US News & World Report. It has also received the INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine's Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award.
Campuses
UMass Boston's main campus has a scenic waterfront location that has easy access to downtown Boston and everything it has to offer. It is also located next to the John F. Kennedy Library and Presidential Museum, the Commonwealth Museum and Massachusetts State Archives, and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.
