The University of Alabama, Birmingham, was established in 1969. It is a public research University offering 140 programs in 12 academic divisions and is known for internationally recognized research.

The Bartow Arena is the University's indoor sports arena, used for basketball and volleyball games and other events. Regions Field is home to the Birmingham Barons, a minor league baseball team; a baseball stadium situated near campus.

Condé Nast Traveler named Birmingham, Alabama, one of 22 places to visit in 2022. The area is rich in civil rights history, so students can visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute or a nearby museum to explore further.
The Railroad Park and Birmingham Botanical Gardens are both scenic spots, whereas the Birmingham Museum of Art is an example of a view where bonafide art is appreciated. Many famous musicians herald from the area and return to play concerts at one of the many local music venues. The skyline is impressive, and the city is known as one of the best places to start a business or career.
