Highlights
The University of Limerick was founded in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick and became a university in 1989. This made it the first university to be established since Ireland gained its independence in 1922. It has more than 16,500 students including more than 2,000 international students.
The University of Limerick has also been awarded a 5-star rating from the QS Stars rating system. This is the highest possible award and it is the only Irish university to achieve this standard.
The university has world-class facilities such as a Wall Street-style trading floor, a flight simulator, patient simulation suites and more.
Limerick is a university that looks after its students. It has a First 7 Weeks programme to help students find their feet, supporting and guiding them during the very early weeks of their studies. There are also Learning Centres in languages, maths, science and IT offering free, one-to-one tutor support.
It is also home to one of the largest campus libraries in Ireland with a robotic crane that allows students to retrieve books from thousands of drawers at the touch of a button.
