Northeastern University is a private university based in Boston, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1896 as the Evening Institute for Younger Men by the Boston YMCA. It became the Northeastern University in 1922 and began admitting women after World War II before separating from the YMCA in 1948. It features a ‘co-op’ education program with a mixture of classroom and professional experience through partnerships with businesses around the world.
It has more than 27,000 students including 20,000 international students, making it one of the biggest universities for students from more than 147 countries to come and study. Northeastern University has ranked in the top 100 national universities in lists from Forbes, Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report and Washington Monthly. It’s also in the top 200 global universities according to the Times Higher Education list and US News & World Report.
Students can choose from a variety of different housing options at UNCW. The university also has specific halls of residence for first-year students, sophomores and upperclassmen. Currently, undergraduate first-years can select a housing option from 11 different halls. These vary from shared rooms and facilities to private rooms and en-suite housing. Also, each halls of residence has laundry and vending facilities, WIFI and basic furnishings, like beds, wardrobes and study areas.
Campuses
UNCW’s campus is in Wilmington, a beachside town on the U.S. east coast. Wilmington is well known for its beautiful beaches and it has been voted as “America’s Best Riverfront. Here students will find various small beach communities along the coastline. In addition, the town has locally caught seafood, a trendy beer scene, and affordable living costs. Wilmington also has a welcoming community of young adults, college students, families, and retirees.

UNWC currently has several financial aid options and scholarships for undergraduates and postgraduates. Among these are the Distinguished Merit Scholarship ($2000-5000 per year) and the Global Student Ambassador Scholarship. These scholarships vary between £2000-$5000 per year and are available for undergraduates. For postgraduates, the University Scholarship Application and Graduate Assistantships offer financial aid for mature students.
Tuition fees for non-residents are $19,063 for undergraduates and $19,104 for postgraduates.
Generally, UNCW students have an A/B grade average. International students require a minimum 2.5 GPA and evidence of English proficiency.
