Bournemouth University was established as the Bournemouth Municipal College in the early 1990s. It was renamed the Bournemouth College of Technology in 1970 and was granted degree-awarding powers in 1990 under its current name. With over 100 years of experience in education, the University offers over 150 undergraduate courses, over 100 postgraduate courses, and doctoral courses in diverse disciplines such as management, technology, social science, health business, media, and communication. Bournemouth University has a high graduate employment rate of 93.3% and a diverse community of over 17,500 students from over 125 countries.

SUBU is the name of Bournemouth University's award-winning student union. Media students are often drawn to the University because of its TV studio, radio station, and editing suites used by students studying media and communication. The theatre and concert halls allow theatre students to develop their artistry. The Talbot Campus also has a medical centre offering general medical care and mental health support.

Poole

There are two campuses – The Lansdowne campus and the Talbot campus.

1. Lansdowne campus
The Lansdowne campus offers Health and Social Care courses and some of the BU Business School’s postgraduate courses. The campus has a range of practical simulation facilities.

These specialist facilities include an operating theatre, an ambulance simulation suite, a maternity suite, simulation wards, and more.

The Lansdowne campus is just outside Bournemouth's town centre. The campus is only a short walk from the Bournemouth town centre and the beach. Bournemouth is a lively location, with plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants.

The Lansdowne area has good transport links – Talbot Campus is a 10-minute bus ride away. The National Express bus hub and Bournemouth train station are nearby. The nearest bus stop is St Swithuns Roundabout, Lansdowne. It’s a 1-minute walk away.

2. Talbot campus
The Talbot Campus is situated at Fern Barrow, Poole. It has the main University buildings, including the main library and the students' union.

Most undergraduate and postgraduate courses are offered at Talbot. The campus has many lecture theatres, seminar rooms and specialist facilities, such as forensic and genetic labs, music studios, and more.

Bournemouth and Poole are famous for their beautiful beaches and water sports. The area has many popular spots, such as the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth Gardens and Poole Park.

Talbot is just a short bus ride from Lansdowne Campus. The nearest bus stop is Bournemouth University, Talbot Heath. It’s a 4 min walk away. The campus is close to the Bournemouth Train Station.
