Cardiff Metropolitan University has its origins in the 1865 opening of the Cardiff School of Art. In 1976 it merged with The College of Food Technology & Commerce and the Cardiff Teacher Training College and eventually became part of the University of Wales. In 2011 it became a university in its own right and adopted its current name.

Today it hosts around 11,000 students with over 1,200 of them coming from more than 143 countries around the world.
