The University of York was founded in 1963, one of the first ‘plate glass’ universities of that era. It’s a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities and is one of the few collegiate universities in the UK. This means that it has 11 colleges with equal status and their own constitutions, managed by elected committees of staff and students.
