Highlights
The New York Film Academy is an accredited higher education facility specialising in acting, filmmaking, broadcast and more. Currently, the academy has a campus in New York. But it also has locations US-wide in Los Angeles, Florida, and Harvard University.
The Film Academy was founded in 1992 by Jerry Sherlock to provide affordable tuition to potential film and acting students. Now, the Academy now provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses for over 1,000 students that provide hands-on, practical learning experiences.
Overall, the New York Film Academy has a huge range of film and acting facilities available. First, students can use industry-specific equipment, such as professional sound services and cameras. In addition, the campus has various stage, music and film studios and state-of-the-art labs. These include the Colorlab, DuArt and Mango Sound and Video.
The New York accommodation for students is located off-campus. Students can stay in the official residence, which is a short subway ride from the campus in Battery Place. Accommodation varies from single to double rooms. These come with different amenities including a refrigerator, microwave, television and wifi.
Alternatively, you can find shared accommodation in New York with support from the Academy Housing Coordinator. However, you will have to visit accommodation in New York before committing to rented housing.
The Academy has a thriving atmosphere on campus, with creative spaces where students can forge ideas. Students can also utilise the modern equipment and shooting space at the Battery Place campus, which overlooks the Statue of Liberty and Southern Manhattan. The institution is highly diverse and inclusive, and around 49% of the intake are international students.
Campuses
Through practical filmmaking and acting courses, students often work in different parts of the city for inspiration. Some of New York's most famous landmarks and locations are a short walk away from campus. Among them, you will find Chinatown, the Lower East Side, Greenwich Village, Little Italy and SoHo. Also, just a short train ride away are the Manhattan Bridge, Harlem and Coney Island.
