Highlights
University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) is a higher education provider in Nebraska, US. It is a public research facility that offers more than 200 accredited academic programs. Subject areas include Engineering, Business, Science, Computing and Management. Several courses have earned recognition for excellence.
The university opened in 1908 as a non-sectarian college. Today it provides education courses and resources for over 15,000 students from more than 80 different countries.
UNO has three campuses across Omaha. First, Dodge is the main campus where most faculties are located. At this location, students will also be able to access resources from two libraries and use study areas and IT facilities too.
UNO has two halls of residence on campus, Dodge and Scott campus. Here students will find modern apartment-style housing with various living options available. Currently, students can select shared accommodation, shared with four or three other students. These come with shared bathroom facilities and some catered choices too. All residences have WIFI, kitchen facilities, cable TV and a shared clubhouse.
Alternatively, students can find off-campus accommodation with coursemates at the St. John Paul II Newman Center. Here students will find a university community off-campus. In addition, private and shared apartments are available to rent near the university.
For leisure activities the Dodge campus has various facilities and spaces dedicated to arts, culture and sport. The Strauss Performing Arts Center, the UNO Art Gallery, and the Black Box Theater all host regular events and shows. Also, students can use the gym and fitness facilities at the The H&K (Health and Kinesiology) department.
The University of Nebraska Omaha has services and staff to support students academically, socially, and physically. As a result, the university enhances student's time in and out of the classroom to set them up for success. Furthermore, the institution's strong academic values and significant relationships with students and the community create an inclusive atmosphere.
Many extracurricular clubs, organisations and sports teams are available at UNO. Students are encouraged to socialise and find a passion outside of their study schedule by joining a club. Some of the current options include arts, athletics, media, politics, religion and volunteering.
Campuses
UNO has a strong community bond with Omaha. Since 1908, the university has developed relationships with business, education, government, arts, and civic organisations. As a result, there is respect between students and local residents.
Omaha is a busy metropolis,which has around 1.2 million residents. A lively and welcoming community exists and there are also plenty of sites to see and explore. Students can take in some local shopping and food at the Old Market, Midtown Crossing or Aksarben Village.Also, the Holland Performing Arts Center and Film Streams host regular performances and events. There are also plenty of outdoor areas to explore, such as Lauritzen Gardens and Bob Kerrey Bridge.
