Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (awarded by BPP University)

The Legal Practice Course, also known as the LPC, is a postgraduate course that is normally studied after an undergraduate degree or law conversion course. If you are looking to become a solicitor, our LPC offers the practical knowledge and commercial awareness to succeed in practice. We focus on the skills and the knowledge you need to secure a training contract. Your learning is built around simulated client portfolios to build the legal skills that employers and recruiters are looking for. Learn from qualified lawyers who can help to shape your career, with links to law firms and in-house teams at every level. The Legal Practice Course covers in-depth legal knowledge, commercial awareness and practical skills employers are seeking.

How you will learn

To ensure you get the most from your LPC, we teach in small groups delivered by experienced tutors who are also qualified lawyers. We believe in offering a high level of tutor-student interaction. Throughout your studies you will have the support of a dedicated personal tutor and opportunities to sign up for one-to-one mentoring. Students are taught through a combination of online resources and live workshops (face-to-face or online for distance learners). Workshops are delivered in-centre and taught in small groups of no more than 20 students, to provide you with a high level of student/tutor contact time.

You will be assessed through a range of methods, including written and oral examinations. We do not have a closed book policy and as such there are no closed book assessments on the LPC or LLM Legal Practice (Solicitors). You are permitted to take statute books, codes of practice and copies of procedure rules into all LPC exams. The majority of legal knowledge required for passing the LPC comes from these permitted sources, as opposed to case law. You can focus your revision on when and how to apply law, rather than memorising it, which most accurately reflects what it is like in practice.
