Capilano University is a post-secondary education provider in British Columbia, Canada. The university first opened as a college in 1968 for North and West Vancouver and Howe Sound residents. In 2008, Capilano was upgraded to university status by the provincial government.

Today Capilano has a large student and alumni network worldwide. The university provides Arts, Business, Hospitality, STEM and Hospitality courses to over 12,000 students and around 2,500 international students.

Currently, Capilano University has many resources spread across four campuses in Vancouver. The main campus is just North of downtown Vancouver and has halls of residence and many of the university’s key buildings and resources are located here. On-site, Capilano has the CapU library where students can access books, ebooks, computing resources, databases and academic references. In addition, the university has several study areas for quiet individual learning or group study.

Further facilities include a fitness and health centre. Here students can use the indoor gym, basketball courts, soccer resources and weight room. At the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts, students can also view live music, drama and cultural events year-round.

City Life

The Capilano main campus is a 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. It is surrounded by forests and mountains, which provide students with plenty of nearby outdoor activities. Lynn Canyon Park, Deep Cove, Lonsdale Quay and Grouse Mountain are just some of the nearby areas of natural beauty. Here students can take up hiking, biking, watersports and skiing and snowboarding in the winter months.

But, for a more leisurely experience, students can head to the many local restaurants and coffee houses near the main campus. Also, the Quay Market and Food Hall and Shipyards Night Market are open regularly so students can sample some of Vancouver’s local produce and food.

Employability

Capilano students can take part in career-oriented programs to help with the transition into the working world. The university has a dedicated careers service that students can utilise during their studies. Here students can find advice, help with work opportunities on and off campus and employment programs.
