Certificate of Achievement Liberal Arts: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
A liberal arts education is designed to help students develop a breadth of knowledge in the disciplines of humanities, the physical and social sciences, and mathematics. An AA Degree in liberal arts provides students with strong critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. In addition, this degree provides students with the lower-division coursework needed to transfer to and succeed in a four-year college or university.
These courses emphasize the natural sciences which examine the physical universe, its life forms and its natural phenomena. Courses in math emphasize the development of mathematical and quantitative reasoning skills beyond the level of intermediate algebra. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the methodologies of science as investigative tools. Students will also examine the influence that the acquisition of scientific knowledge has on the development of the world’s civilizations.
