BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Cyber Security)
As the world is becoming more connected and companies reliant on data to inform their strategies, cyber security, privacy, and risk management roles are essential to help businesses prevent cyber attacks by protecting the security of their information. Our Computer Science (Cyber Security) BSc will enable you to gain a sound academic grounding in the discipline of Computer Science, an understanding of the professional issues relevant to your future working life and specialist knowledge in cyber security - informed by our own research and industry trends.
In your first year you will explore the fundamental concepts and techniques for object-oriented programming. From interaction design and computer animation our modules are designed to bring everyone up to speed, regardless of the starting level of coding experience, and to provide a gentle introduction to the skills required for effective academic study.
In your second year you will learn advanced programming concepts that can be applied in areas such as games programming, mobile app and web development, artificial intelligence and cyber security, not disregarding the human aspect of Computer Science thanks to the focus on user interaction and user interface design, software engineering methodologies (SCRUM, Agile) and cutting edge research in AI and machine learning. To complement and broaden your learning, you will also have the opportunity to select from optional modules in areas such as digital forensics.
Your final year will culminate with the opportunity to deep dive into research focused modules (including a final year research project) relating to the specialist area of cyber security. You will learn how to identify the major types of cybercrime and implement counter-measures to protect against them and explore the laws relating to the major forms of cybercrime and cyber security. The knowledge and skills acquired from this programme will enable you to protect information systems from unauthorised access, harm or misuse.
