MA Gender and Women's Studies and English
Course Overview
The MA in Gender and Women’s Studies and English combines teaching and scholarship in Gender and Women’s Studies and in English Literature. This MA is for those interested in Gender and Women’s Studies who want to pursue literary studies or who have a particular interest in women’s literature or feminist literary theory.
You will take core courses in each of the disciplines and can choose from a range of optional courses (normally taking three in total, with at least one from the Department of English and Creative Writing). You will have the opportunity to interact with staff from the Centre for Gender and Women’s Studies, an active centre in the UK for feminist research, gender studies and women’s studies.
As an MA student, you will be immersed in the academic and social life of the university, and be part of a supportive and dynamic community of students and researchers from across the world. We aim to foster a supportive environment in which you will learn and carry out research – whilst giving you the opportunity to meet other scholars and activists, take part in seminars and workshops, and exchange ideas and insights with feminist and literary academics.
Graduates from this MA have gone on to PhD study. Others have gone on to work in local and national government, in public-sector, non-governmental or voluntary organisations, or to teach in schools and colleges.
