PGDip Learning and People Development
As part of this course, you’ll:
- Learn how to perform effectively as a specialist learning and development practitioner across a diverse range of business environments and sectors
- Develop knowledge and understanding of strategic learning and development, people management, managerial and business practices
- Critically evaluate and apply theory and techniques to a range of complex issues, problems and situations
- Gain a strategic perspective on learning and people development practice in external and internal business contexts
- Practise making ethical and informed quantitative and qualitative professional judgements
- Develop creativity and transferable skills to use in organisational and professional settings with awareness of inclusivity, sensitivity to equality, diversity, and culture

This course will enable you to enhance your academic capabilities and management aspirations to develop your career in learning and people development. It has been developed to the advanced diploma standards of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the professional body for learning and development and human resource management practitioners.
Research-led teaching
Our teaching is informed by research and professional practice. You’ll have access to guest speakers who will provide specialist input on modules. Using genuine case examples, you’ll critically analyse differing approaches to learning and people development, and people management.
Your academic community
You’ll join a diverse and inclusive close-knit community of students and academics who work communally, supported individually by our course team.
Employability
Your learning will have a strong focus on employability. Our mentoring scheme offers the opportunity to receive support and advice from an experienced practitioner. You’ll be encouraged to attend academic conferences, CIPD conferences and events, and the Leeds Business School Guest Lecture programme.
On graduating from this course, you could study for the final 60 credits of the MSc Learning & People Development Top-Up to complete a full master’s degree.
