Students can enter at Stage 1 (University Foundation) and are guaranteed progression to the first year of a relevant degree, providing that progression criteria are met. Stage 1 takes place in ICP using dedicated lecturers and benefit from small class sizes.

Biosciences

Rapid developments in life sciences mean that almost all areas of our life will be increasingly influenced by DNA-based technologies. With an ever expanding population, we also need biologists capable of cataloguing and conserving plant and animal life on Earth. At the University of Portsmouth you will receive an excellent scientific education from academics who are leading researchers in their field and committed teachers alike, equipping you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will allow you to excel.

Environmental Science

In this discipline area you will study how the Earth works, how it has changed and how this information can be used to aid civilisation and economic development. In many parts of the world, geological hazards such as landslides, earthquakes and tsunamis present major risks to life, infrastructure and livelihoods. Dedicated, dynamic staff will show you how to 'read' the landscape, understand how it was formed and how life evolved on this planet.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology at the University of Portsmouth is ranked 13th in the UK (The Guardian 2018) and has a reputation as one of the best Schools of Pharmacy in the country. The University of Portsmouth's laboratory facilities have recently been boosted by an investment of £1 million to include an aseptic manufacturing area and equipment for a full range of pharmaceutical, chemical and biomedical techniques. Students on this course benefit from first-hand experience through realistic clinical scenarios (including use of a fully stocked model dispensary) and also get to practice profession-specific skills on medical mannequins.

Progression requirements
For progression from Stage 1 of your programme at ICP to Stage 2 at the University of Portsmouth you will need to achieve higher marks than are required for some of our other degrees. You will need to achieve the following in each module at ICP in order to successfully progress to the MPharm:
Chemistry 1: 70%
Chemistry 2: 70%
Interactive Learning Skills and Communication: 65%
All other modules: 60%

Registering as a Pharmacist in the UK :
Whilst the MPharm programme is accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) for entry into pre-registration training, due to changing UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Regulations, International Students are not guaranteed that they will be able to undertake a pre-registration training post upon graduation. However, should you be unable to obtain such a post (and hence be unable to qualify to register as a pharmacist in the UK) you may be able to use the qualification for entry into the profession in other countries.
We are unable to give guidance on which countries this may apply to as the situation is subject to change. Our advice is that if you are thinking of working overseas you should contact the pharmacy regulator in the country concerned to see what the position is.

Psychology

Psychology at the University of Portsmouth is ranked 27th in the UK (The Guardian 2018). The Department's research centres and expert research groups, led by internationally renowned academics, underpin the teaching on these courses. Those BSc (Hons) Psychology and Forensic Psychology students, who graduate with a 2:2 or above, are eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Graduate Basis for Registration, which is the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

Sport Sciences

Sports Science at the University of Portsmouth is ranked 2nd in the UK (The Guardian 2018). It is important that sports professionals have studied their subject to the highest level in order to flourish in the increasingly important global sports community and business. These courses cover a wide range of issues along with a basic knowledge of sport and physical activity and you will also study the issues and theories that underpin and drive the sports agenda. This subject area has been placed in the top ten in every National Student Survey since 2005. It is one of the world's leading centres for research into the effects of environmental extremes upon human performance.
