BA (Hons) Journalism and Communications
Storytelling takes many forms – and in our new BA (Hons) Journalism and Communication degree, you’ll learn how to tell a whole world of stories in a compelling and engaging way.
The course at UCA Farnham is designed for people aiming to become journalists or work in the wider communications industry, for example in public relations, marketing or corporate or internal communications. From the get-go, it is a hands-on course: you will be encouraged to find exciting people with interesting stories and to tell them in your own unique way. You will be taught to produce journalism for different platforms, including apps, websites, magazines, television, radio, podcasts and social media, and to find your own distinctive areas of specialism within a field such as culture, the environment, music, fashion, sport, politics or equality and human rights.
You'll combine strong creative practice with technical skills that will underpin the extensive development of your academic and theoretical knowledge of journalism, public relations and the global communications industry. These skills include effective storytelling, interviewing skills, spotting a great story, learning to use cameras, microphones, studios and editing software, media law and the ethical foundations of journalism, and industry awareness.
You’ll be guided by our team of experts and have access to our state-of-the-art facilities within our Film & Media Centre.
And you’ll have the option to undertake a Professional Practice Year, or a shorter placement, to gather invaluable work experience ahead of graduation.
