MSc International Business and Islamic Finance

This is one of the degrees pathways on the MSc International Business group of degrees. This degree pathway allows you to add a focus on Islamic finance. This is an area that we collaborate on with our colleagues at Al-Maktoum College, here in Dundee. You will choose more specific Islamic finance related modules as part of this degree. These is a broad range of areas to study and may cover areas such as Islamic commercial law, Islamic capital markets, operations of Islamic banks and Islamic financial markets, alongside the nature of risk and its management in Islamic financial institutions.

From your core modules, you will learn to various international business strategies and engage with key areas of international business such as global risk analysis, global financial markets, and international trade. This degree will also provide you with a good grounding in business strategy, operations, finance, and investment in an international context. You will study a core project module. As part of this, you can undertake a global internship, work on an independent project with an organisation, or work on your own project independently.

When you start you join the 2 week Foundation Programme where you will learn more about all of our business conversion degrees and their pathways. You will make your final module choices and establish which degree pathway is right for you and your career. At the same time, you will be building your network of friends who will support you socially and with your studies while here in Dundee. The network of friends you make will most likely carry on through your career. The Foundation Programme is designed to make your arrival in Dundee easy, and ensure you have the freedom to choose the degree that is right for you. You will graduate with a degree in MSc International Business and Islamic Finance and this degree title will be on your transcript.

International Business is a popular choice for career development as it provides a very strong overview of key international business behaviours. If you have never studied business before, you will be able to use your new-found knowledge to launch a career in business. We have seen many graduates who have continued working in areas related to their undergraduate studies but now have stronger business knowledge. The Islamic Finance focus will give you the skills and understanding to work in a variety of conventional and Islamic businesses such as banks, insurance companies, financial service companies, and trading brokers. You may also want to apply for roles in the finance arms of industries and commercial firms outside of the finance sector. Islamic finance and banking is a growing area of business across the globe, and not solely linked to Muslim countries. Many Western banks and financial services are opening up to offering Islamic banking and finance products to customers.
