Highlights
There are more than 290 student-led societies and volunteering groups at the University of Edinburgh. Campus life is active, and it is also one of the UK’s leading sports universities. The Volunteering Hub provides volunteer opportunities to students so they can increase their employability and apply for volunteering awards. A well-respected institution in Scotland, Edinburgh receives high safety and security satisfaction ratings in the International Student Barometer survey.
The University offers a range of facilities to students, including several libraries: the Main Library, the Law Library, and the Moray House Library. Each library provides aesthetically pleasing architecture and print and digital resources in each study space. Computer labs, high-performance computing systems, software, and tools are readily available at the University.
The student health centre provides various medical services, including general medical consultations, sexual health services, and mental health support. Galleries, studios, and theaters are all part of the art facilities offered by the University. Sports-focused students can enjoy a gym, swimming pool, and sports hall.
The University of Edinburgh offers 15 halls to students situated both off and on campus. Traditional-style buildings and modern flats are included within the Halls, which are usually self-catered but sometimes come with catering options. The University also rents apartments and houses via the accommodation services team if students have a group of friends who want to live together. The University guarantees accommodation to all new full-time undergraduate students who apply by the specified deadline.
Edinburgh is a compact and scenic city steeped in history. J.K Rowling wrote most of the Harry Potter novels in nearby cafes, and the city is a reasonable basis for much of the setting of the books. Edinburgh is a friendly city that hosts the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in summer, with lots of street performances to enjoy for free. Students often debut comedy and theatrical shows at the festival, with people travelling worldwide to enjoy Edinburgh. Deep-fried Mars bars are a local delicacy in Scotland, but all food preferences are catered for. Potterrow is the biggest student club in Edinburgh, plus there are numerous bars, pubs, and whiskey joints to socialise in.
