Whether you're already working in teaching, education management or policy, or a graduate interested in pursuing careers in education, this course provides the knowledge and skills to enhance your career prospects.
The MA Education extends and deepens your understanding of current theories, policies, and issues in the field through intensive study and research. You can tailor the course to your interests by selecting your topics, and work towards one of our specialist endorsements: Leadership; Teaching and Learning; Early Years; Inclusive Practice; or International Education.
Through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process, you can transfer up to 90 Master's level credits gained from previous postgraduate study in associated disciplines, including PGCEs. The MA also provides a clear route to a Doctorate in Education.

Welcome to our MA in Education. Your teaching comes from an experienced expert team of lecturers. These include academics and practitioners with a wide range of experience. Over 90 per cent of our teaching team holds a teaching qualification.

Entry requirements
If you are
Applicants should have:
- An undergraduate honours degree at 2:2 or above in a discipline relevant to education. This can be education studies, childhood, youth and community studies, sociology, philosophy, or psychology.
- If the degree is not from a relevant discipline, they can still gain entry to the MA Education if they also have three or more years’ experience in education as teachers, tutors, or managers, and/or if they have a recognised teaching qualification at Level 5 or above.

Can I use prior learning?
You can transfer up to 90 Master's level credits gained from previous postgraduate study in associated disciplines, including PGCEs. This may be subject to the University's Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Master's level credits obtained in a relevant discipline in the past five years will be considered towards the MA. Experiential professional learning may also be accredited, subject to approval.

We are looking forward to welcoming students to our campuses for 2022/23. In line with government guidance, we are committed to delivering as much of our teaching, learning and student activity as possible on campus for the 2022/23 academic year. Depending on the national situation, and government advice, the situation may change but we are confident we are ready to manage any changes quickly and safely. Teaching
Teaching and learning on the course takes place through interactive seminars, where you will be engaged in the process of learning through class and group discussions.
Contact hours for the full-time mode are 1pm-8pm for two days a week. For the part-time mode they are 5pm-8pm, one day a week.

Independent learning
Outside of timetabled sessions, you will need to dedicate time to extend your learning through self-study by researching and reading around the topics covered. Our library and online resources will support your further reading and research. You can also join a range of student societies, including law and debating.
Overall workload
Your overall workload consists of timetabled sessions and independent learning. Full-time students are expected to spend at least four days a week studying. For part-time students, this reduces in proportion with the number of modules you are studying.
Assessment
On this course, students are assessed by written academic papers, portfolios, essays, online tasks, and a final dissertation.

Accommodation costs
Whether you choose to live in halls of residence or rent privately, we can help you find what you're looking for. We have dedicated accommodation for postgraduate students (Devonport House) available from just £160 per person per week, with bills included. If you require more space or facilities, these options are available at a slightly higher cost. Students based at the Medway Campuscan also reside in student halls in Chatham or rent privately in the local area.
There is a range of financial support available to support your studies. This includes postgraduate loans, international scholarships, and options for current students and alumni to continue studying at the university. Our services are designed to help you achieve your potential and support your transition towards a rewarding graduate career.
The Employability and Careers Service provides support when you are preparing to apply for placements and graduate roles. It includes CV clinics, mock interviews and employability skills workshops.
Each School also has its own Employability Officer, who works closely with the industry and will provide specific opportunities relevant to your own course.

Academic skills and study support
We want you to make the most of your time with us. You can access study skills support through your tutor, our subject librarians, and our online academic skills centre.
Where appropriate, we provide support in academic English and mathematics. If you need to use particular IT packages for a specific module, we provide training for this.
Support from the department
We have established a students' society for childhood, youth and education which organises an annual conference to which you are welcome to contribute. You will also be invited o regular postgraduate seminars that take place at lunchtime and on various Saturdays throughout the year.
