Why study Politics? Some of the decisions that are made in governments and other institutions can have a huge effect on our lives, particularly now that we live in a truly globalised society. This course aims to give you an understanding of how those decisions are made, and encourages you to take an in-depth look at issues such as conflict resolution, democratisation and development, and systems of governance. We'll give you the opportunity to gain a critical understanding of political processes and institutions, focusing specifically on British politics. You could look at political parties, political leadership, policy-making and elections, as well as political philosophy and global political issues. 100% * of graduates from this course are in work and/or further study fifteen months after graduating. From working for an MP to helping at a non-governmental organisation (NGO), educational institution or media outlet, you’ll be given the chance to gain some practical experience in a professional setting. * In your second year you may have the opportunity to study abroad for a term. * You’ll have the chance to get involved in a range of extra-curricular activities. You could also benefit from guest lecturers such as MPs and political figures, and engage in student-led debates. * We encourage students to get involved with the active student Politics Society to gain practical experience. This is increasingly valuable as employers are looking for graduates who have transferable skills, such as the ability to put forward an argument.
