BA Hons German Studies
Guten Tag! Learning German at school may have meant a lot of vocab and navigating tricky tenses, but at uni we go beyond that. This course will allow you to bring your German up to a professional level (even those who start as beginners) while immersing yourself in German culture, history and society.
An integral part of the course is a year abroad in Germany or Austria. This will develop your communication skills, build your confidence and help you stand out to future employers. During this time, you may teach English in a school, undertake a work placement, study at one of our partner universities – or even choose a combination of these options.
You can study German at Nottingham as a beginner or as someone who has already gained an A-level in the language. Over the first two years, you’ll follow either the ‘beginner’ or ‘advanced’ pathway, but everyone reaches the same level of professional proficiency by the end of the course.
All students within the Faculty of Arts can select ‘Engaged Arts’ modules where you’ll approach real world challenges across contemporary themes such as sustainability or equity and justice. These modules have been newly designed to help you gain the skills and analytical abilities that employers are looking for.
You may also progress to this course from our Arts and Humanities Foundation Year, subject to eligibility.
