If you think about any of the exciting advances you’ve seen in robotics, power generation and energy storage, space exploration and applications, medical diagnostics and treatment, disability support, future transport (automotive, aerospace, personal) and many more sectors, you can be sure mechanical engineers were part of the teams that delivered them.

As well as taught sessions, you’ll have access excellent manufacturing research facilities, including robotics and 3D printing techniques. You will also apply your knowledge in individual and group project settings.

Mechanical and manufacturing engineering share a common programme for the first two years, where you will learn the fundamentals of engineering science and design. In the third year you will specialise in mechanical engineering options.

This is a four-year course and year three is a year placement in industry. This degree course is fully accredited.

Mechanical engineering is available as a BEng or a MEng course. The MEng is a masters degree and provides the preferred route to achieving Chartered Engineer status. The first two academic years structures are the same for both BEng and MEng and if you choose to study the BEng option you may be able to transfer to the MEng course at the end of the second year if your performance meets the criteria.
