MA Musicology
The MA in Musicology is an integrated program involving music criticism, analysis and applied theory as well as cultural and historical studies.
This program is designed for students who desire a deeper interest in music research, including methodologies related to class, race, gender, economics and other social concerns.
Faculty offer students close mentoring leading to the development of skills appropriate to an academic career in musicological research.
The project option replaces the thesis option with a research project of your choice. While this program’s coursework is similar to the thesis option, the flexibility of the research project supports careers in musicology-related fields, such as music/arts administration, secondary school teaching and performance, arts outreach and interdisciplinary applications combining music with other fields for work in the private sector.
