BA (Hons) Event Management
At Winchester you will learn how to combine creativity with careful planning to deliver memorable and well-managed events. Our future-focused course puts digital skills and problem-solving at the core and in every module, employability and industry links are integrated to support you to develop your skills. You will also have the opportunity to attend occasional field trips as part of your course. You will acquire a thorough grounding in the strategic and managerial skills needed to function in any business environment and can complete a work placement offered by local employers who make regular contributions to the programme. There is an excellent range of practical modules and the University works closely with professional practitioners and expert speakers who can help to build up your industry network. You will receive support from staff and have direct access to expert knowledge throughout the course. In Year 1, you are introduced to academic and professional studies and pursue a number of core modules which include business and event-specific modules. In Years 2 and 3, you further develop theoretical and practical skills and explore some of the specialist areas of event management such as sponsorship and mega events. Optional modules include Volunteering, Creativity, Design and Innovation and Media Relations. During Year 3, you will undertake an extended independent study module and may choose from a consultancy project, a part-time work placement or a dissertation. Key modules include studying festivals and their environmental impact and optional modules include Social Media Management and Communications Management. A Personal Development Plan (PDP) is embedded into each year of study and will enhance your academic, personal and professional growth. Your PDP will set your agreed goals which could be developing your soft skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership; creating a roadmap to support your career aspirations, for example identifying internships and work experience; or planning out your opportunities for networking. Your PDP ensures you will receive continuous support tailored to your individual needs to enhance both your academic performance and career readiness. Graduates go on to careers with event management companies, venues, leisure departments, festival and tourist organisations, publishing, PR and in the sport and entertainment industries. The Pathways to Marketing, Fashion Business and Marketing and Event Management programmes run for the first time from October 2024. The pathway is an opportunity for prospective business and management students to engage in a series of practical and informative sessions delivered by academics and business professionals at the Faculty of Business and Digital Technologies Participants in Pathways to Marketing, Fashion Business and Marketing and Event Management programmes are eligible to receive reduced contextual offers on the following University of Winchester courses: - BA (Hons) Marketing - BA (Hons) Fashion Business and Marketing - BA (Hons) Event Management Eligibility for the programme The programme is open to all Home/ Channel Islands Year 12 and Year 13 students.
