What are the steps to get a UK student visa?
Updated on Nov 20, 2023Here are the steps to obtain a UK student visa, along with information about how Edvoy can assist students with visa guidance in a more medium-length format:
- Receive a CAS: Before applying for a UK student visa, you'll need to secure a CAS from a licensed Tier 4 sponsor, which is typically the educational institution you've been accepted into. The CAS is a crucial document with a unique reference number that you'll use in your visa application.
- Complete the Online Application: Visit the official UK government website (gov.uk) to fill out the Tier 4 Student Visa application form online. Be sure to pay the required visa application fee, the amount of which may vary based on your location.
- Gather Required Documents: Compile the necessary supporting documents, including your passport, passport-size photographs, CAS statement, proof of financial capability (e.g., bank statements or sponsorship letter), proof of English language proficiency (e.g., IELTS results), academic qualifications and transcripts. If applicable, provide tuberculosis (TB) test results.
- Biometric Appointment: Schedule and attend a biometric appointment at a local visa application centre (VAC). During this appointment, you'll provide your fingerprints and have your photograph taken.
- Visa Interview (if required): In some cases, you may be asked to attend a visa interview at your local British embassy or consulate.
- Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): As part of your visa application, you'll need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). This fee provides you with access to the UK's National Health Service (NHS).
- Visa Decision: Await a decision on your visa application. Processing times can vary based on your home country and the time of year.
- Collect Visa and Travel to the UK: If your visa application is approved, you will receive a vignette (sticker) in your passport, allowing you to enter the UK. After arriving in the UK, you must collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from a designated post office within 10 days.
Navigating the UK student visa application process can be complex, but you don't have to do it alone. Edvoy's team of experienced study abroad consultants is here to assist you every step of the way.
