Bachelors Social Work

The Social Work program (designated as a pre-major) is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. At the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, students learn about human dignity and the need for justice. They also learn about caring as the foundation for effective change and service that transforms lives and communities. Social Work is a profession that prepares practitioners to empower individuals. It also prepares them to advocate for social justice in organizations and communities. Coursework combines a thorough liberal arts education with field experience with community professionals. As part of the degree plan, students are placed in a variety of field study opportunities. Baylor University has paired with several agencies and foundations to ensure that students are well-equipped with hands-on experience. Some placements include local hospitals, congregations and public or private social agencies. Other placements include homeless shelters or hospital clinics.

Graduates with a Social Work major can serve as social workers in many fields including rehabilitation clinics, adoption agencies and child protective services. Other fields include hospital patient care or family counseling.
