BA (Hons) Archaeology
You can take the degree as a BA or BSc according to whether you prefer an arts-based or scientific route, but whichever you choose you’ll gain the skills required to become a highly proficient practitioner, experienced in all forms of landscape survey, remote sensing, excavation and recording. You’ll learn through expert-led lectures, seminars and a range of fieldwork opportunities all over the UK, alongside our active team of archaeologists, and their commercial counterparts to gain essential transferable skills recognised by the Chartered Institute of Archaeologists. There’s also the opportunity to complete a potentially career-shaping five or 30-week placement in industry, and attend an archaeological field school at the end of year one. Students have attended placements with some of the leading UK archaeological organisations, and foreign placements, often via the Grampus programme, in Cyprus, Finland and Iceland. Graduates have gone on to work in roles for English Heritage, Border Archaeology, Hertfordshire County Council, National Trust, Historic Scotland, Museum of London Archaeology Services, Oxford Archaeology and Wessex Archaeology, to name a few. Our archaeology courses received an impressive 100% overall satisfaction rating from final year students in the latest National Student Survey (NSS, 2018).
