You’ll have access to our broadcast-quality cameras, autocues, audio recorders and even a Green Screen TV studio, which has been used to film programmes such as Black Mirror.As well as this you will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software including Premiere Pro, InDesign, Audacity, Photoshop and others.**What will I study?**This course aims to be as hands on as possible. You will be regularly out sourcing stories, whether that be around the town, across other courses or further afield. You’ll develop you writing, interview and researching skills so upon graduating you are ready to go into work.As well as lots of practical journalism, you’ll study law and ethics and learn how the media reports news as well as politics, business, economics, fashion, health, entertainment and sport. You’ll learn how the media interacts with governments and people, exploring issues like “fake news” and power, truth and citizen journalism.**How will I be taught and assessed?**This course is offered as a four-year programme, including an initial Foundation Year. The Foundation Year will allow you to develop your academic study skills and build confidence in your abilities, identifying your own strengths and development needs for progression onto an undergraduate degree.During the course you will learn key writing, interviewing, filming, recording and editing techniques and how to report and present on different multimedia platforms.You’ll also have the opportunity to explore different areas with journalism so you can not only find your own interests and the right career path, but to also ensure you have a broad portfolio of work to boost your chances of finding your dream job.Teaching is held in a range of ‘journalism workshops’ which include a lecture, seminar and then practical task. On ‘news days’ you can expect to be out and about finding a story the matches your brief, you’ll then present back to your class.Students will benefit from our industry-expert lecturers as well as our guest lecturers, industry visits, collaborations with local media and other organisations and the opportunity for you to forge your own contacts and gain valuable work experience or placements.
