MSc Graduate Apprenticeship Cyber Security

Develop your existing professional IT skills and experience with a Masters in Cyber Security.

The purpose of the MSc Cyber Security Graduate Apprenticeship is to produce masters level graduates with skills and knowledge in cyber security with a specialisation in network security.

The Apprenticeship is targeted towards existing IT professionals who need to develop their current skills and experience in assessing security risks across a broad range of technical security solutions and designs.

By the time of course completion, masters graduates will be able to plan and carry out a variety of security testing strategies on IT infrastructures (wired and wireless); research, analyse and evaluate technical threat intelligence to reduce cyber security threats and vulnerabilities; troubleshoot issues arising from vulnerability scanning and design cost-effective mitigations comprising careful combinations of technical, procedural and administrative controls. Glasgow Caledonian University’s common good principles and values are embedded in the course, where you develop their ability to find innovative solutions for real-world problems they encounter in their workplace, and reflect on the business impact of their decisions.

From a human capital and talent management perspective an employer may either upskill current employees and/or recruit new talent into the business and support them through the Graduate Apprenticeship course. Most employers use both models to increase their skills pipeline within the business.

All Apprenticeships are fully-funded by Skills Development Scotland; skills, knowledge, academic qualifications and experience of current employees will all be used to inform at which level of the course candidates will commence their education.

Professional accreditation

The School of Engineering and the Built Environment is an accredited Cisco Academy. The curriculum material from the professionally recognised Cisco Certified Network Associate qualification and Cisco Certified Network Professional is integrated into this course. With additional work and assessments, you can work to complete these Cisco Certified qualifications.

Assessment and teaching methods

A Graduate Apprenticeship is a work based degree course, where learning is applied and assessed in the workplace. You will be responsible for your own learning and assessment but supported by workplace mentors.

The course is delivered via blended learning, (online and face to face). All reading material, tutor discussions, assignment setting, marking and feedback, timelines and key dates are located online in the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), GCU Learn. You will also have access to the University’s award-winning library.

In the final year of the course, you will work with your mentor and employer to identify a suitable work based project which will form part of the assessment for honours level study.
