MA History
The History department has a proven track record of student satisfaction and provides a supportive learning environment. The MA History builds upon these strengths and you will be encouraged to expand your research into themes across a range of chronological and geographical frameworks. Case studies will have a strong regional emphasis and will benefit from the expertise of staff and the pre-exisiting links with heritage professionals. Placements, fieldwork and networking opportunites will focus on the communication of history in modern society and the development of essential employablity skills.
KEY COURSE FEATURES
- Exploring themes in regional history which can be applied to any region and across a range of different periods.
- North East Wales is currently under-represented in the historical record and this course presents students with a unique opportunity to highlight the cultural heritage of the region and the particular issues surrounding ‘border’ identity.
- This programme will enable you to promote a public understanding of the past in today’s social, political and cultural life. It combines the intellectual strengths of History with modern, practical and transferable skills.

ASSESSMENT & TEACHING
You will be assessed throughout your course through a variety of methods including written work, portfolios, presentations and a dissertation.
CAREER PROSPECTS
MA History graduates will have the analytical, intellectual and practical skills for a variety of careers. Traditionally, graduates have been employed in various roles, such as: teaching, law, project management, historical research, heritage management, curation, archive management and custodians of historical buildings.
