PhD: Social work research has a long and distinguished history at Keele and 74% of research is judged world leading or international excellent.

OVERVIEW

The social work group in the Centre for Social policy (CSP), a key component of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed to excellence in research that develops knowledge about social work and that can be applied to advance the quality of professional practice for the benefit of people that use social work, in the region, nationally and internationally. Our research is grounded in a rich interdisciplinary approach and undertaken in partnership with a wide range of service delivery organisations and international partners. A wide range of research methods are used across the social work group, to conduct research about the experience of people using social work, the evaluation of professional practice and quality of professional education.

Facilities
The Centre welcomes postgraduate research students from around the world as members of this community, providing a high standard of facilities, including well equipped office space, postgraduate seminars, an annual postgraduate conference and social events. The inter-disciplinary nature of the Faculty provides excellent opportunities for networking both with other postgraduates and with the academic staff at Keele, thus helping postgraduate researchers to achieve their full potential in a stimulating and lively research environment.

The Centre attracts UK, EU, and international post-graduate students studying for full-time and part-time PhD and MPhil degrees. Centre members produce high quality social scientific work of international significance and of relevance to many user communities. We have received major research grants, doctoral and post-doctoral awards from the AHRC, ESRC, the European Union, the British Academy, Nuffield Foundation and Leverhulme Trust, as well as collaborative studentships with voluntary sector and criminal justice agencies. We are a member of the ESRC North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP).
